Then end the paragraph explaining how this article relates to how education can change racial barriers in education?

We have been discussing racism in our classroom and the barriers it creates for students of color, but is that knowledge helpful? Can we make a difference as young people? Can awareness and education ignite a personal responsibility that leads to social change? Let’s discuss . . .
Step 1 Read the following article
I want to warn you that this text is a tough read, so you will really want to take your time with it this week. You are all capable of reading and understanding it. I have no doubt! But you will have to read slowly and use the reading strategies we learned about in the course so far.

Step 2 Watch the following Ted Talk
Step 3 Post your response to the discussion board — Reflect
Write 2 paragraphs of at least 200+ words each for your initial response.
After reading the article, please write the following: For paragraph 1, please write a summary of the article. For each page (12 total), write 1 -2 sentences that explain what each specific page was about. I should see 12 short summaries to begin your response. Then end the paragraph explaining how this article relates to how education can change racial barriers in education?
In your second paragraph, respond to the Ted Talk. How does education bring awareness and change? What do we need to do as educators to spur change in our students? What do you as students need to do to mobilize as change agents? What have you learned that caused you to want to make a difference?
I look forward to your thoughts.
Step 4 Read and respond to other students’ posts
Read other students’ posts and respond to at least two of them. In addition to any other comments you may have, respond to the following:
How can you further the conversation? What can you add, question, expand on?
What struggles and thoughts do you share with your classmate?
Use your personal experience, if it’s relevant, to support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally and provide examples to support opinions.

Appropriate source citation

Describe and compare one consonant and one vowel in English and in another language (could be similar sounds in both languages, or only one language has this sound).
What pronunciation problems might occur because of that? These could be real problems demonstrated by your students; or problems you have read from sources.
How can we help language learners improve pronunciation for those particular phonemes? Please be specific in your teaching activities.
If you have no knowledge of another language, you can search for articles on phonetic differences between English and other languages. In your description of the consonants and vowels, please use the features of consonants and vowels we have learned in class (terminologies are required, such as voiceless labial stop, high front vowels). Your description should help someone who does not speak the language understand how to articulate the sound. Please also use the phonetic symbols to represent consonants and vowels correctly.
You can use sources to help your explanation and description. If so, please cite your sources properly in APA format.
Length: minimum 2 pages, not including title page, and reference page, must be double-space
Grading criteria:
Accurate use of terminologies to describe the sounds
Meaningful and correct comparison of the sounds in the two languages
Clear description of articulatory problems encountered by language learners
Effective explanation (with linguistic knowledge and terms) of problems
Specific teaching suggestions
Appropriate source citation

Then, think about the opposing viewpoint.

Instructions
STEP 1 REVIEW LECTURES ON COUNTER ARGUMENTS
Watch and read the lectures carefully. (Links to an external site.)
Counter Arguments Lecture.pptxActions
How to Write a Counterargument
Writing Counter Argument Paragraphs
STEP 2 THINK THROUGH THESE QUESTIONS. . .
Think about your thesis in Project 3: How does unequal opportunity affect students? And, is it be a deciding factor in their educational success? Why, or why not?
Then, think about the opposing viewpoint. If you argued that unequal opportunity affects students educational success, why would someone think not? If you argued that unequal opportunity does not affect student success, why would someone argue that is does?
To help you think it through, answer the following questions:
What was your argument (thesis) in Project 3?
What reasonable claims have others made that contradict your argument? List at least 2. Look at the opposing article to help you find opposing reasons. You could use these claims as your counter arguments. Remember that the counter argument is more than just stating the opposite viewpoint. A counter argument provides a logical reason and evidence to support that counter argument. Then, it is your job to refute that reason and explain how it is not logical.
How could you refute the counter argument? What points could you make and which pieces of evidence could help you support your counter argument?
STEP 3 COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITY
For our purposes, we will keep the counter argument to one sentence. We will add the counter argument to one of our body paragraphs. The counter argument should come in as the first sentence, before the Point. Then, the Point refutes the counter argument and proves you are right.
Things to remember:
The counter argument for our purposes will be only one sentence. We will not provide Information or Explanation about the counter argument. We will only mention it, right before the Point.
The counter argument should provide a reason, not just state the opposite thesis.
Your Point will work to prove the counter argument wrong. Your reason in that body paragraph should directly respond to the reason in the counter argument.
Make sure your paragraph follows the sample. Don’t forget to highlight.
Copy one of your paragraphs from the Writing Project 3 timed writing into a doc.
Add a one sentence counter argument before the Point (Topic Sentence). Then, add a transition word to move from the counter argument to the Point.
Highlight the counter argument in yellow and the transition word in pink.
Essay is:
Educational Success
Unequal opportunity leads students to disappointments and discouragement. In simple words, it affects the way they think. Instead of striving hard to pursue their dreams and goal they tend to surrender because of the unequal opportunity. Unequal opportunity limits the potential and prospects of students and will hinder their development. According to statistics, students from high family wealth performed better compared from middle and low wealthy student. It is an indication that unequal opportunity affects the academic achievement of students due to the lack of resources available. However, it does not mean that it dominates the educational success of student.
In the study of Robert Dreeben and his colleagues at the University of Chicago, it was found that there’s a racial gap that was aggregate in the students. This was an example of how radically teaching forces can influence the unequal opportunity. Unequal opportunity is always present even on today’s generation, the only thing we can do is fight for our dreams. Don’t stop dreaming until you succeed.
Jaykumar Vaida was once a student that came from a low wealthy and broken household. She was deprived to enjoy her youth as others do but it is not a reason for her to stop dreaming. Jaykumar was working hard to sustain her education. Instead of worrying about the present, she derived his attention to her studies. He was dedicated and determined to finish his study. And at last, now she is a scientist and pursuing her PHD AT University of Virginia, USA. Jaykumar story is evidence that unequal opportunity is not a deciding factor of educational success. If you’re determined and dedicated on what you’re doing, everything is possible.
Thousands of students around the world have been deprived and was under the system of unequal opportunity, and most of them was able to attain educational success. The educational success of student is a matter of how the student think and plan. Yes, unequal opportunity might affect the performance of student, but it can never decide student’s educational success.

What does mccague mean when she uses the word “commodity” and how does it differ from the traditional meaning/idea we associate with the word?

This week we read “When People Become Commodities” which is a longer read that focused on the topic of “commodity” and its relationship with baseball. This article will function as a “bridge” between the first essay we are writing and the second Unit we will start next week which will focus on issues within given Communities.
After reading “When People Become Commodities,” please respond to the following questions in approximately 250 words in at least one paragraph. Afterward, reply to at least one other classmate’s response (simply saying “I agree!” does not suffice).
What does McCague mean when she uses the word “commodity” and how does it differ from the traditional meaning/idea we associate with the word?
McCague uses different “academic” methods to back up her claim. What are a few examples she uses and are they effective for backing up her claim?
This article focuses on baseball specifically, but how does the argument that McCague put forth in this article reach beyond just that sport and why do you think it is an important message, especially in the digital world we live in?
By the end of the article, what would you say McCague means by the word “Commodity” and why?
